Geomechanical modeling (for 3D Mesh and 3D Grid)
The Geomechanics strip provides two main features: the Modeling workflow and the 3D Grid Geomechanical Properties workflow.
With the Modeling workflow (MODEL > Geomechanics > Modeling) you generate a geomechanical model which serves as input to geomechanical simulation. The Abaqus workflow for instance requires a geomechanical model to be assigned as input. While working through the workflow, you combine all available geomechanical data and parameters. You can iteratively define different scenarios which can be applied to a single discretization (3D Mesh), or you can apply one geomechanical model to multiple discretizations. The result of the workflow is a geomechanical model that can be reused, despite any change(s) applied to your structural and hence 3D Mesh model.
The 3D Grid Geomechanical Properties workflow (MODEL > Geomechanics > 3D Grid Geomechanical Properties) provides the functionality to populate your 3D grid with topological properties (which are a function of location and depth) based on primary properties. Typical topological properties are pore pressure and stresses (overburden, horizontal). The output of this workflow can be used, for example, as input to fault stability calculations with the Fault Stability strip.
